Damaged Goods

by michelle davis - Capricorn

The most wonderful and precious mystery
is within our hearts; and that is the preservation of our rich history.
Memories of a thousand years compels the Spirits to cry out for our acknowledgment.
The grain of our existence lies in the truth where the web of knowledge is spent.
But we have been blind-sided by our own degradation.
We hold evident only text book knowledge, failing before God to seek reconciliation.
For we have been ostracized from our roots for so long
the ghosts of our forefathers and mothers whispers a mournful song.

Wake up, flock - the shepherd is calling our name.
He is gathering his sheep together to stake our claim.
But we are in slumber, our eyes refuse to open.
Our sleep is comforting - it has become our token.

The longer we continue to wear our deceptive hoods,
the longer it will take for us to realize that we are damaged goods.
Shipped from port to port, traded from sea to sea.
We are precious cargo who to this day still refuse to be set free.
We hold ourselves in bondage by our self hatred and calamity.
We look to others for what we will not offer ourselves, and that is total amnesty.

What will it take for us to open our eyes?
What will make us seize the moment?
Our glory is our blessed prize.
But we are too disposed to own it.

The generations before us offered resolutions that benefited our existence in humanity.
What do we have to offer those to come, besides our careless vanity?
Do we dare leave a legacy tainted by immoral contention?
Or will we realize our calling and bless God by acknowledging His intentions.

For He is absolution and grants no mistakes.
He has deemed us sacred and all the while patiently awaits
the ascension of his chosen ones who no longer broods.
Because he will refine and make whole his damaged goods.
