A ROSE IS STILL A ROSE

by michelle davis - Capricorn

She wept from the night until the morrow.
She was hurting deeply, and all could see her sorrow.
She was ashamed of herself, and afraid to face the world.
She wanted to act like a woman, but she was just a lost little girl.

How can she tell her mother? What's daddy gonna say?
How can she face this world another day?
She is worried, because she feels all alone.
She is afraid, because she knows she's done wrong.

But it's not all her fault, she didn't do it by herself.
She turns to look for her partner, but she stands alone - there is no one else.
He has disappeared like a thief in the night.
Having stolen her precious gem, her innocence, and taken flight.

He smiled and cajoled, filling her heart with glee.
He made love to her, then left her with only memories.
Oh, he left her with something else as well.
Something she tried to hide, but had to come clean when her belly began to swell.

Mama cried, Daddy had a fit.
Little brother shook his head, friends split.
For she had now become a statistic, another number added to the roll.
Another teenager having a baby because neither partner used birth control.

Reason for writing:

So many young girls are having babies. This is not yet complete, there is much more to add...
