WAVE

by Chris Berry - Taurus

WAVE.

Look at him, see the way he stands.
He salutes you; he salutes your neighbour,
and then is gone. He compliments the
enemy, and they explode a gracious handshake.

You hear his voice. And in one moment,
it is clear amidst all confusion.
And even though you may be startled,
let me speak.

He has been greeted with great joy,
as he pulls the twilit line. Composing
a great wave, from lakes, that now
submerge, all, unwanted time. Don't watch,
don't stare, for he'll fade away from sight.
So please, respond in turn as he blankets
his final, disputed, light. For he is done.

Observe the endless splendour, and stay afloat,
as the effort that is made each day,
is sentenced. A days parole, our day, our land.

So when he passed you, and you noticed,
just remember where you were, what you did.
That you shook the nearest hand,
that you smiled, and were smiled back at.
And for a second, just for a second,
he embraced you. And then, was gone.
