The Rose

by Brian Buchanan - Scorpio

Flowers blossom in a garden accompanied
With dew that sparkle as the wind blows.
Many kinds of flora brings happiness to people
But not one delights more than the rose.

She has soft, delicate petals of sweet smell
That enfolds many colors of passions that we desire.
Purity of petal white to yellow petal of friendship
Amorous pink and red petals of love all hold by her.

Thorns were created to protect her from harm
By men who want to grab, control, and hold sway.
Yet it brings out a mischievous side that
Can be frisky, sensual, and playful in every way.

Preserving her beauty requires loving care.
She can't be picked then pounded flat with heartless feeling.
But always watered with tender emotion and with
Fresh earth cuddled beneath her, warming and sealing.

The rose is a beautiful and precious flower
Who should be adored and valued like a work of art.
She should be caressed with love and embraced with happiness
For it is this treasure who has captured my heart.

Reason for writing:

This was inspired by a true beautiful rose (T.N.) who helped awaken this gift of poetry within me.
