The Youth Today

by Samantha Lowe - Scorpio

I go to school each day expecting to be safe from all harm…
Expecting to be sheltered from the outside world…
Expecting to leave alive…

The time has come when the places where we thought were safe
Are now the prisons of the innocent...
The playground for all evil
There’s no more hope.

Those who are shunned by peers based upon how they look, how they act, are now neglected
Those who seek to conform but are different from the rest are now out-casts and set on their own
Those who seek guidance are overlooked and left to help themselves
Why do we do this?

The ignored…
The out-casts…
The different…
Seek relief from the pain in the only way they know how-
Murder the ones who hurt them.

We blame the massacres on music…
Lifestyles…
Disorders…
When in reality, we’re the ones to be blamed.

We’re the ones who mock others due to their appearance…
We’re the ones who out-cast those who march to a different drum…
We’re the ones who abuse…
Neglect…
Threaten…
Laugh at…
Kill.
