One Pound of The Gavel
by Richard Maxfield
2-1-2000

as the sun streaks across our empty bed
pain and memories of love now dead
through lies, selfishness and things untold
you killed our love, turned young to old
broken by cheats, strangers in the night
knowing it was wrong it was not right
I know you to well you cant hide
I sense the pain, the tears inside
there is sadness in your eye
but to proud to stubborn to cry
you think what you have done I could not forgive
no way to fix it no way to live
there was a time there was a chance
to reunite love, ignite romance
you walked away not willing to try
left me standing alone, to hurt and cry
the pictures have been taken down off the wall
I have changed my number so you cant call
in the corner with your knees in your chest
alone in the darkness you know I did my best
until death do us part that’s what you said
with one pound of the gavel our marriage is dead
was the fantasy worth lousing all we had
years of happiness, good to bad
