Relationships end and new ones begin,
You may see it coming or may never know when.
They come and go like the tides high and low,
But through every experience, by wisdom you grow.
It no longer deals with how many footprints are in the sand,
Although there may only be two, God is carrying me in the palm of his hand.
There were things you never looked for, blinded by love,
You never knew these would be blessings from above.
That celestial stranger is now gone from sight,
But that doesn’t mean anyone has lost the fight.
Time spent alone builds character and strengthens the heart,
The journey has just begun, we now have a new start.
You followed my lead blindly and engulfed me in your trust,
A lesson we both learned, honesty and integrity is a must.
Erasing those footprints from the plains of my mind don’t interest me,
It’s the future dreams and ambitions that have engulfed the sea.
Although the waves may beat and crash down upon the sand,
The possibilities of what’s to come creates an unbreakable band.
The untameable sea may wash away footprints left behind,
But it will eventually roll back ever so gently, ever so kind.
These are truly footprints in time,
Reflecting on how each pair of them has made their own chime.
You choose which ones you want to keep and learn from,
The ones laced with memories will be the deepest ones.
You can never retrace your steps at the oceans line,
That would be an ideal world, so perfect, so sublime.
But from here it isn’t backwards you want to go,
It’s not about letting go, it is about forward progression though.
Wherever the tides may take you from here,
These footprints in time will always be near.
No need to look back to see which ones stay,
Leave that for others to make their own way.
