Daddy's Little Girl

by Samantha Lowe - Scorpio

Thank you dad, for always being there
For always showing me that you cared
But most of all, for being the type of dad that I have learned to look up to.

I’m sorry for all the fights we’ve had…
When I didn’t want to see how right you were
Or when I couldn’t see your perspective of things;
I’m sorry for getting into so much trouble…
For making you go crazy when I just wouldn’t listen
Or when I did the things I knew would get you mad, but did them anyway.

You were there to save me when I was attacked by a hive of bees
Swinging that bat as though they were going to kill me,
Taking me somewhere safe…
You were there when I had fights with mom
She would make me feel like a failure or a disease,
But then you proved to me that she didn’t feel at all that way, that she was doing the best she could do…
You were there when I needed you the most,
And never let down your guard.

But I also learned from you…
If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be the ‘walking music trivia game’ that you see me as today
You introduced me to The Beatles…
The Doors and Led Zeppelin…
The Beach Boys, The Mama’s and The Papa’s…
The REAL music;
You also taught me history
Dragging me to battlefields, naval bases, and even graveyards…
You made me see the beauty in our country
And the hero’s of yesterday.

You encouraged me to be a drummer, and to continue with teaching myself piano…
You encouraged me to play baseball but to also dance ballet…
You encouraged me to write- my poetry, my letters to the president, my essays to the world…
You encouraged me, even when I felt that it wasn’t what I wanted
But in the end, you knew exactly what was best.

This summer, you’re teaching me how to surf…
You’re helping me get better at hockey…
And you’re continuing to be the person that I love-
My hero…
My friend...
My dad…

I love you daddy.
