Color of America - Respond to this

by J and J - Cancer

colorless america
america of one color, one shiny little wavelength...
green green green.

money washes away the sins of racism past
you can buy justice
with a spot of cash.

no one cares if you're white or black
no one cares what god you pray to
as long as you got a bunch of greenbacks.

pockets stuffed with stocks and bonds
ankles chained with bonds of financial security
who now can tell me america is alive and well?
who now can say that our eyes are color blind
when, if you are poor and even if you in the "majority"
("majority"? race doesn't exist, and americans are supposed to be americans, all of us...)
when if you don't have status
you're likely to end up with a flatfooted bullet in you.

o pray for the day when we live
up to the ideals we set for ourselves
equality under the law
safety for one and all...
hapiness is an illusion of poetry
but justice can and should be
very real.

Reason for writing:

concern with the state of the nation...what the hell is going on in our backyards...when can we sit on the front porch, laugh and shake each other's hands?
