If the memory of odors is rich then a millionaire would I be bottling the scent of rain-damp cement, fresh-cut grass and bee's clover; Wealthy would I be bottling the smell of childhood lilacs, early morning sunshine, even cattle on a hot, dry, Idaho afternoon; Prosperous would I be bottling the aroma of shining new crayons and pink erasers; But, if the memory of odors is rich then penniless will I be trying to bottle your body's musky perfume the spicy fragrance of me and you when my poor, poor remembrance will not serve to remunerate me in your absence.
Reason for writing:
a line in a Steinbeck novel, "the memory of odors is rich", and I realized how many things in my memory were associated with smells - school days, childhood, summers, everything has a smell and many things have a song, too!
How about you? do smells trigger memories in you, too?
