Please, God, I Can't Take This Anymore

by Mrs. Slim Twit - Capricorn

I never thought the next time I would see you would be like this.
A part of my life is gone.
A part that will always live in my memories.
I can see pain in so many of these eyes.
Such a loss for them all.
The shots ring out.
So loud, they pierce my heart in places you remain.
And deeper still.
As this flag is folded and passed to older generations,
your soul is risen and taken from this ground of hate and sadness.
Pictures will remain only.
And a path not taken will be carried away with each passing whisk of wind.
And washed away by the tears of angels.
But all those empty footsteps will remain.
We will see you once again, though.
The reunion will be a greatness that our souls have been beckoned to.
But until then,
rest well.
I will see you again, my friend,
in the end.

Reason for writing:

My friend died at the end of last month. He was in the military.
The funeral services were full military honors. I have known him practically
my whole life. I will miss him. He was only 21.
