My escape from the Concrete World

by Kristina Harris - Aries

Weary eyed, and wide awake..
I slip into my jeans..
open the door..
quiet steps...sauntering..
strangely against the cold,
hard concrete of the cement
landscape I call home..
I smear the windshield clean
with my hands.
And crawl into my little car..
feeling snug...as a bug in a rug(ha!)
The engine makes a loud, unpleasant roar..
Ahh, but a lovely sound to me.
As I pull away from the parking lot..
the road shimmers in morning's buttery light.
Calling me, with it's dreamy curviness..it
seems to whisper "follow me.."

So I do.

Careening smoothly..no traffic to interupt
the peaceful aura of the untainted day..
which floats in and out of me..
as I take puffs on my cigarette..
A dirty habit..they say..
but I don't care..
I feel completely at ease..
with the coming of the trees..
outside my windshield.

Drive little car drive..
Soak up the beauty of the new day...
and take all my cares away..
Refresh my spirit..
to know that beauty still exists..
in a concrete world.

Reason for writing:

this is really just a story of a little drive I took this morning..
