Heroes die, cities fall, Cultures slowly fade away. Best friends move far and wide We live on another day. Another war lost We wish for yesterday. I remember childhood, Ice cream with my dad. I smile as I look back now, I took advantage of what I had. Funny, how we tell stories of good And forget about the bad. I close my eyes and find myself In winters white with snow, Or rainy days I sat inside And watched the lightening from my window. The times I laughed or sang off key, Where did all those days go? Sometimes we just can't help But think of all we've lost, Sometimes we just jump And never think about the cost. Mostly though, we just look back At bridges we have crossed.
Reason for writing:
My drama teacher was having the class do an exercise with emotions, mine was longing, and after the exercise I sat down and wrote this poem.
