Ruins for my mother inspired by the Chilam Balam II. The only dry spot in the whole town is the ancient city. It remained dry after the storm while the streets of the modern town are wet and muddy. Hundreds of huge, black beetles take refuge on the foot high sidewalks we are walking on, on our way to Montalban. As we make our way to the ruins, the beetles pop under our shoes, fire works under our feet. High above the city we climb stone monuments, I, tracing my finger along the cracked groves where grass has sprung up, filling in for mortar. Coming down I take the steps sitting, afraid of falling, Moctezuma's revenge. Before we leave someone buys a statue of a jaguar, white stone mixed with green flakes.Birth sign: Aquarius
