Princess Dreams and Wishes

by Anisa Abeytia Yamani - Aquarius

Princess dreams and wishes
immediately wither under the
scrutiny of life.
Such a harsh gaze can not
sustain ice sculptures and winter
weekends in the snow.

Taffeta bows are swiftly untied
when the unemployment checks
roll in. The icing on the cake
no longer holds great importance
when there are bills to pay.

Dreams like these only serve to distract
and disturb our lives.

Princess dreams and wishes
require castles,
with great. big moats
that keeps out much of life,
but not the mishaps.
Seldom do fairytale dreams
end up living happily ever after.
