Beneath the weathered face of aged rock Where stoney broken bones of lizards lay, Man seeks the unknown place and ancient clock, Paleozoic droughts and blizzards razed. The nameless seas that bathed the callow world Ran dry as oceans froze in thickened air, With all the placid shores where life uncurled Lost without the waves that landed there. Then melting sun poured endless dusty days As era covered era, baking cold blood warm, And mountains pulling stars through twilight's haze While breaking up the clouds, made rivers form. So rose the history of man with tool and thought To break the rock and shift the sands that time forgot. PAL copywrite 2000
Reason for writing:
I love the natural history of this world, the succession of life, the genetic dead ends, and the vast time scale. Yet this planet is very young.
