The Firefly's Curse

by Jared Stipelman - Virgo

Dreams are what sustain us
They add color to the gray wastes,
They are the embodiment of purity,
Perfection personified,
They are the lantern to guide us through our nights,
Alas how do I fulfill them,
Sate my feral desires,
For I am but a prisoner
Shackled to my ambitions,
Enslaved to that which is intangible,
I have become like the firefly,
Chained to the light that I created.

Reason for writing:

This poem embodies what happens when one realizes that the world doesnt revolve around themselves, and when all they can take comfort in is the naivety and petty ambitions that made them lose what they had.
