I have led a full life, Watched the rainbow shimmer and fade, Seen civilizations rise and crumble with my fleeting breath Countless campaigns met with but a glance, Oh how I yearn for peace, My spirit to soar to new heights, Unencumbered by the laws of the corporeal, For fatigue to course through my veins, Oh how I lust for oblivion, But, will I be remembered, Immortalized in the songs of bards, Preserved in vast scriptures, Will my legacy transcend the Empires, the very era of humanity, I daresay not, As I am but a droplet in a storm, Evaporating into nothingness mere moments after I fall to the ground
Reason for writing:
This poem is based on the death of my uncle. All said he was a good man, but even at the funeral people joked and laughed. I thought it was very hypocritical of them. It made me realize how damn insignificant I really am
