opening doors

by angela swanger - Aries

Opening the doors to life can really be a scare,
Living in a society that doesn't even care,
A teen-age child that is honest and strong,
But adults treat him as if he doesn't belong,
A worker by nature and a school boy too,
Harrassed and put down by more than a few,
No messing with drugs or sneaking a drink,
But of course that isn't what THEY want to think....
I wonder why he tries so hard to be a good child,
When everyone assumes he is childish and wild.
Sure he needs to grow up a little bit more,
But Society is the one that needs to open the door...

Reason for writing:

I wrote this poem for my teenage brother because he chooses to be himself and for that reason people assume wrong things about him. I think we need to take time to get to know someone before we pass judgement on them.
