why can't you wait

why don't i have the courage 
to feel the way you do
to say my parents don't matter
and i only care about you

but i am too scared of upsetting
my mother and my father
so i will sit here alone
my sadness pushing harder 

if only i could be old enough
for them to let me go
to say "it's up to you"
but i'm not you know

so why can't you just wait
for the timing to be right
and i will slip away with you
out into the night

    for my boyfriend who loves me more than i can sometimes handle.
