KILL ME (A war poem)

by Samantha Lowe - Scorpio

Kill me…
I’ve seen the horror that war has brought down upon us…
I do not wish to see more

Banish me from seeing with my own eyes…
I can’t stand the sight of slaughter
Nor the sights of men as they each go insane…

Take the privilege of hearing away from my ears…
I cannot listen to the cries of death anymore
I can’t sleep knowing that there are men crying
Dying out there…

Prevent me from feeling…
The pain is getting to be too much to bear
Standing here without an arm…
Without the hope of making it home…

Ease my fear by forbidding me to smell…
The smell of decaying flesh as corpses are laid out to be buried
Innocent men, most only teens, struggling to survive…

Allow me to give up my sense of taste…
For all that can be tasted is the rotting food in which they serve to us
The food that’s been gnawed upon by rats and lice…

Kill me, so that I cannot face the nature of war…
Kill me, and take me from this hell…

Reason for writing:

I just recently read 'All Quiet on the Western Front' which is a book about WWI. I really got into it and it inspired me to write this so I dedicated it to all those who have died or fought in a war.
