IN MEMORIAM TO VICTIMS LOST OF COLUMBINE HIGH

by Samantha Lowe - Scorpio

Cast a glance over to these poor pathetic eyes
Heal the inner arguments
Taste the bitter sorrow within these words I speak
Make these emotions bleed from all sentences spoken
Heal the wound that society has scarred.

One year has passed since the day the ground had opened up
Since the day two children were taken from their parents grasp
And into the arms of Pluto
One year since the rebirth of innocent souls and
the discovery of something overlooked.

And so I ask of you one question…
Why the blame set on something not of the reason
And not set upon you- society.

Those who were responsible for teaching us high morals
Those who were responsible for guiding us down our path
Those who were responsible for encouraging us to do good
Those who were responsible for loving us…
Turned their backs that day and fed us to the flames
Youth has fallen victim.

Our songs are but unvoiced and unheard
Our laughter, like that of a retired clown, but a silencer of life
Our hero stained and burned out with that of cigarettes
Our lives drowned out by alcohol
Beaten by too strong of players
We thrive on… unnoticed until too late.

You gave us the scars
You taught us the hate
You deprived us of the help in which we needed.

And so… the youth marches on…
Parading down broken roads
Unguided paths
Looking for a savior to come take them from their place
So that, this year, love shuts the door of hate.
