Words Never Spoken When cold souls meet, no love is lost When the time has come to part And you mistook me for that way A misjudgement of my heart For through clouded disception You thought you knew me well And it costs me such a bitter tear To know that I had so much to tell A secret that I meant to share Though chances came and went Proved too hard for me to divulge And now my time is spent I tried hard to show my feelings Though the words were often subtle Scared to give too much away For fear of a rebuttal But I've learnt life shows no mercy to those Who don't overcome their fears And if it's harsh gales doesn't wreck their sails Then they drown in a sea of tears And,immersed in grief,I still hear your voice As if carried on the breeze Every falling leaf reminds me of my choice Of the chance I didn't seize Yet, as your memory fades, and time moves on I feel that I can swim to shore Perhaps, like Odysseus and the mermaid's song You'd have led me to sorrow's door But I would prefer a heart That feels rejected, even broken Than to still carry inside of me These words never spoken
