Sea's dead calm a threatened stillness His world: the hunchback corpse Nothing more. Let the dying die-- and he may for days recline Deathlike. Stir? Move? just to reassure the living? After a thousand hours he rises mumbles where uncoiled suns melt the world. Black birds' emissary evocations the cruel comforters, He is on trial in the court of Shame stairways collapse in the heat. Saints bark at his door the Eyes retreat to dogs' hairs stringing up the Moon. Like a web awaiting its spider, he wind-rattled, cold, Vivisects his soul. Does these things rather than pray, or believe in Sharks' teeth, Heaven. Sea's dead calm conceals, Whale breathes submerged the freshly stolen gulp. His lover awaits in her Hell unfaultering. There.
