The Rise and Fall of The Catholic Church Once a hagiarchy Ruling with an iron fist Now the walls are crumbling The truth lost in time's grey mist A great man once came down to earth To free the unenlightened Nefarious hands stripped his words of worth To gain control over the frightened Even now, they're still confusing minds Indoctrinating children from day one Making them feel ashamed and guilty For things they haven't even done For we're told we're stained with original sin And that Jesus died to save us They say that non-believers go to hell Using fear and guilt to enslave us As for the priests, who absolve our sins These supposed holy men Read the news with tired eyes To see they've fallen from grace again Simply turn back history's pages To see these aren't calumnious claims Take the iniquities of the Middle Ages Heretics sent to death in flames High ranking clergy live a life of leisure While the masses struggle in poverty and pain The Vatican, a vat of treasure The bonfire of the vanities in vain Celibate priests pontificate on sex "Thou shalt not use contraception" A cardinal is tried for heresy For doubting the immaculate conception No birth control means more population The poor get poorer, spreading disease Can the priests absolve their own sins For bringing nations to their knees ? In church, a priest speaks from his altar We chant along like automatons I feel my faith begin to falter As he speaks in contradictory terms I ask him later to elucidate To provide an exegesis But he can only adumbrate My faith crumbles to pieces True faith is just blind faith A palliative for the insecure I'll rest my hopes on a fair universe And keep my thoughts virtuous and pure Now that another age is dawning People are seeing through the contrived lies The endless idiosyncracies Viewed with perspicacious eyes In the beginning was the word The word got changed at such a cost The word was good, but no one heard For in the end, the word was lost.
