Sometimes I think it is nice to walk home alone, To walk in the night when the world has shut up for the day. Where shopfronts are locked away and the streets are empty, Except for slivers of rubbish being kicked around, And light dancing in its own dappled way. ------- But not every night, For there are always those nights, Like now, One of THOSE nights. ------- The clouds have boiled over from the magicians pot, Pressing down heavy, squeezing with their leadened expectation. The wind - cold and sharp, cutting keenly along my nerves, And the places I walked seemed shadowed in concrete, Forbidding and grey. Terribly, horribly grey. One of those nights, Where thoughts are soured and happiness leeched away. ------ And then I see you, lady in the dark, just up ahead, A fellow soul travelling, walking the drear byways as well. And I'm not sure what I think but I quickened my step, Perhaps not to talk to you, only to walk close by, To share the strength of two, camaraderie in the dark. ------ Then I look a little closer, And really see you, For the first time, Lady in the Dark. ------ White spider webs are forming over your knuckles, From fingers clenched convulsively tight. Your walk, not an easy one, Half skip, straining to break into a run. And your breath, Trailing over your shoulder in the cold, A twisted scarf of ragged, panting sobs. I can feel your eyes, Darting to the left and right, Not quite daring to look around. ------ So I stop and watch helplessly, As you disappear into the night, Can feel your breaking tide of relief, As the coldness closes behind. ----- And lady in the dark I'm sorry, As I stand here all alone, And lady in the dark I'm saddened, At the world you walk going home.Birth sign: Virgo
