To be a man

by Sneak - Virgo

A buzz on the schoolyard grapevine,
Running with an electric chill,
Feel it tug, feel it pull you in,
Whisper with its chiterous breath.
-----
She slept with him, that is the rumor,
Carrying far on frosted breath,
Etching itself into wooden tables,
Inking onto linoleum walls.
-----
She gave it up, she gave in, she's a mark,
That is the buzz among the boys,
All planning with avarice eyes,
A focus for hormonal dreams,
Catalyst of ugly comments,
As each plays up to his pride.
------
Leave her alone, wants attention, just ignore her
That is the buzz among the girls,
Dislike sharpened, claws unsheathed,
For breaking the code and drawing fascination,
Away from the feminine fold.
Doing more than they are willing for.
-----
And as for him, the other half,
The one from whom the words flew,
No less painted in different shades of guilt,
He sits back and basks,
The envy of the boys,
The wonder of the girls.
For him the first of many,
Learning early,
What it is to be a man.
