Charity

by Sneak - Virgo

I've seen you do it,
Don't try and lie to us,
Or worse,
To yourself.
.
Given to many charities,
Sponsored a child,
Food-aid for the homeless,
Congratulating all the while.
.
But when they come shambling up,
Toes flowering from mismatched shoes,
Hair more tangled that deceit,
Life worn like cast off clothes,
.
When they come shambling up,
Accidentally make eye contact,
Look as if they might want to talk,
Suddenly your interested in the pavement,
Pray most fervently and then look away.
.
Nice to help,
As long as you don't meet,
Nice to help,
Just not on your street
