a mermaid sat
perched up high
watching ships & sailors
slowly pass her by
she longed to swim
catch one in fist
keep him in the ocean
to live in fog & mist
but she knew her fate
full of salty tears
holding the waves
folding like years
the sailors were bound
living on land
concrete dreams
instead of sand
so she spent time
in a silent cry
watching life
pass her by
even now in still breath
to that rock she clings
bare with the sea
&
the emptiness it brings
