I was almost with you one day. So close, I could have been mistaken for someone you knew. Not allowed to be anything but a magician amongst spirits, watching others mystify over the unreality of you. Creating dreams to exist in that even I was silly enough to want once. But now, I shake hands with shadows, walk on second hand air. I was almost with you... though you've never noticed. If I followed closely I could smell you. I almost touched you, but you may have shattered. So, left you did indeed my fingertips craving. In desperate need my tears... I was almost with you today. You turned and spoke my name, my existance shaking as you lifted my hand and kissed my aching heart. I said not a word as your lips touched me, and you began to blow away... and I was again left alone to cry into thin air. I was almost with you once, but as I gasped for words reality seeped in, and set me free. Charley copyright 2000
Reason for writing:
I was listening to a certain song, and as poets, I know you all understand what that means. well, I wish you could hear it, and you can! go to CDNow.com and for Artist, type in Joan Armatrading. The cd of hers you want is Greatest Hits. the song is "The Weakness in Me". It's the most amazing song. Also, those of you who have seen the movie 10 Things I Hate About You, you'll know this song. It's the song playing while Kat's playing the guitar in the store and Patrick is watching her. it's absolutely beautiful!
if you hear it, enjoy!
