Summer Nights, Heat

by J and J - Cancer

it was HOT
heat swirled in every corner, dripped
from every ceiling and floor board
whirlpools of
silent sweat soaked seconds spinning
slowly melting, until the forehead was wiping again
futile efforts to be cool and clean.

infrared flashes show candles nearly bursting
moths don't seek flames, they burn on their own
but
who cared, the keg that kept our attention
was shown no mercy, and as night blissfully murdered day
calm and chill settled in on
happy drunken smiles.
