Good-bye

by Johnny - Capricorn

As I slowly touch and feel
The engraved words with my fingertips
A pain comes to my heart
As if I could feel
What this world put you through
As if I could feel
What you felt like inside

Slowly memories come to mind
Unfortunately, not very pleasant
It runs back like a time line
Beginning from the day
When we all asked why?

Days of seeing you in pain
Days of seeing you cry
The day we were to select
Your last dress and only coffin
The day things ended
1 member short and 1 love
Absent of my side

Reason for writing:

When I was in 5th grade. I had a crush, named Rita. During those days it was considered boyfriend/girlfriend. (well, we became that later on.) Junior High came, we were apart for all Junior High years, 6th to 8th grade. Then also freshmen and sophmore years. Stilling keeping her in mind every now and then, she returns to me in the middle of sophmore year. But not as expected. A phone call from my her mother told me she was in a hospital, a result of a car accident. I went to her, saw her, and again, liked her. She, unbelievably still to thought of me, and liked me. I spent a few days with her, while she was still in the hospital needing an operation to remove a bone fargment from an organ. Before the operation, she said she loved me. (note: in the poem "Love" love passed my life once, a girl said she loved me") The operation was unsuccessful, and I was left having to keep a promise she made me keep from 2 letters she was able to write me during nights at the hospital, that was to always keep her in mind, and to care for her sister, Cindy. To this day, 6/22/00, she still lives strongly in my heart, and in my poems. And her sister is an everyday reminder of Rita. (A collection of Rita's poems are a part of a series called "R".)
