or to forget the name completely

what it's done to me
startled me, shocked me, hurt me
the mention of this name
rang the nerves in me
the owner's voice and tone remembered
stirred a memory to return
then a feeling of pain
the second mention of your name
echoed in me
stayed inside, my heart
your name...I sigh
how did such effects come about?

to hate the person I can't do
because I'd only be denying
in me what is oppositely true
but to hate the name I can
because your name
