June 2000 Pt. 2

by Mama Effie - Cancer

Cassia pulled her head up and started to walk to the lunch room. On the way Karen handed her a note, called her a bitch then walked off. Cassia decided to read it in the bathroom. She walked in, peered into all the stalls and began to read:
		Cassia,
Look, the reason I have been mean to you lately is because
my mom said I can't be you friend anymore. Besides I really agree
with her too. You are scaring me and Kourtney. She has told me about you,
how you said you did a spell for strength. And you are just too plain rude.
And don't talk to me and Katie, if her mom sees you with her, shewill get
really mad. This is wrong, either you stop doing this or choose not to be our
friends. Oh and don't talk to us either.
			Karen.

Cassia just crumpled up the note and walked out of the bathroom. Her day was not going very well, it wasn't until she had left that the feeling that she must cry came over her. She had just lost her two best friends. She looked for someone she could talk to and she saw her English teacher and caught up to her. Cassia knew if she didn't get somewhere fast she would break down in the hall. So very quietly she asked
"Could I please talk to you?" The tears welling up in Cassia's eyes.
"Sure come on in here,"she said pointing to the health room. She closed the door, and the moment that Cassia heard the lock click the tears finally just started to fall. they didn't stop for ten minutes, by then Cassia could manage to tell her story.
About how she knew that she might lose friends when she chose this religion, but she never thought her two bet friends would betray her, especially right now that she had so many people's lives on her shoulders. It took most of lunch for her to get the courage to go and face the school for the rest of the day, until she could go home and ask why.
As Cassia walked out she was happy to see Tris and caught up with her. "So I heard that Kourtney and Karen don't wanna be your friends anymore. "
"So i guess they are telling everyone." Tris nodded silently. "Well this is a bunch of bull you relize they are the only people who care that I am not a Christian." She nodded again. "And Besides I have the rest of the junior high that is my friends, and most of the 6th grade class too. So they can just bite me."
Tris smiled and they went into the gym. Life was good in there and everyone looked realitively happy. Cassia could see Karen talking to Ashley and they were both giving her the evil eye. Cassia just kept walking on, not caring if Ashley didn't like her. Ashley wasn't someone you really wanted to be friends with anyways. Kourtney was giving her looks of sorrow, Cassia just smiled back and started talking to Tris. Life would go on, even if Kourtney and Karen hated her.

Tuesday went without any occurenses. Wednesday ws a different story on the other hand. On the way back from stream Cassia ran into Chrissy in the hall of the elementary. "You know how Mr. Long wants us to do the solo?" Cassia asked while they were walking.
"Um...yeah, its kinda weird, he wants us to split it. Like you get one half and I get the other. I don't know why he couldn't have made the choice. Or we do it together, it would be alot easier."
"Yeah but you kow how he is, even if he gets mad at us sometimes, he will usually be fair. I know it would be easier if we both did it, but you know how he wants to make this concert the very best one he has ever done. Thats why we are doing Mars, and Peter and the wolf. Just to make a show. He wants to do something original for our solo, lets just go with, ok?"
"Yeah sure, I'll see you tomorrow." Chrissy started to head back to her class, and Cassia remembered something.
"Tell everyone hi for me, would you?"
	"Yeah, Bye"
Cassia headed off towards the highschool feeling a little better, at least she had gotten to go outside. She felt bad for all the people left in the class. On the wa she didn't think about how Mr. Long would do the solo, but she thought of how tomorrow she may not see Jeremy all day, until late and when they went to the concert. That was what she worried about, the concert.
How was she supposed to tell him. When where would they be alone. She couldn't do it after because everyone was all happy and giving eachother hugs. She couldn't do it before either, because he was working the door with other 6th graders. It was hard. Maybe when they were waiting to go on, or after they put their insturments together.
The class was a little bit hyper when she finally got there. She sat down and started to talk to Rosie, ignoring the whispers from Karen, and Kourtney listening. It was hard not to listen when her hearing was better than most people's. She could hear it as if they were talking right next to her. But Rosie cheered her up pretty fast. Soon the bell rang and the day was over.
That night as Cassia was going to sleep she said good-bye to the 7th of June, and hello to dreams of Jeremy.
