The day was filled with hectic preparing for the concert. The band members had practice for three periods. But through it all Cassia had to keep thinking about how she was going to tell Jeremy and the question as to whether Kourtney's mom had said that she couldn't be Cassia's friend.
It all started in typing. Kourtney was still Cassia's best friend no matter what Karen said. It was only when Karen reared her head that Kourtney became quiet and Karen did the talking. But it didn't matter from the first time Kourtney looked at her with sorrow in her eyes Cass new that Kourtney still wanted to be her friend. She was just afraid of Karen turning on her. Which she had every right to be. Look at what happened with Cassia.
Cassia understood, the only reason why everyone was so to nice Karen, and didn't say half the things that they thought, was because they knew when Karen didn't like someone, evryone was bound to hear at least one rumor. But they neve seemed to touch Cassia. She just kept going on like before. Karen was telling everyone, and that was the one thing Cassia had tried for so long not to let anyone hear. This was a Christian place. She knew that and so she didn't want to tell anyone.
Bobby was being a jerk in Math, and it started to get on Cassia's nerves. Usually she could stand him being like this but not today. He kept reminding her that today was the day he was leaving.
"ok you know what,"she finally told him in the hall "I don't care if you are leaving, you have been such a jerk to me. I am glad you are leaving. It will take some temptation out of hitting you."
"Oh now now baby. You know you want me. Everyone wants me."
Cassia walked way the moment he called her baby. She was glad when the bell finally rang. Now she could go and practice with the band. Spend the rest of the day in good music. She hoped that the little kids would be there to practice with them. She funished walking to Mr. Colins room and went in.
"Mr. Colin, I am leaving you know. Bye bye. "
She started to walk out the door but he caught her. "Hey Cassia wait up. I need to write you all a pass. He pointed to the group hanging around the band kids. "
Tris walked in and waved to Cassia. "Hey girl," Cassia said "You coming to practice. You better I don't wanna be all alone in there. Cause i don't think that the 6th graders are coming."
"Yeah i am coming, why would I want to leave you all alone in there. It can be scary." She smiled and turned to Mr. Colins who was saying something about luck. Then all the people gathered around walked out the door, heading for the band room.
There weren't any chairs in the room. and people faught over stands. but it really didn't matter, Tris and Cassia always shared a stand. It was easier to just use one piece of music. That way you could point out where you were. Mr. Long looked exausted. Probably because he hadn't left til 10:00 last night and came in at 5:00. No one really cared. It was always funny to see him right before a concert. He constantly thought of how bad it all could go, but every time they got onto the stage we were better than anything anyone had ever heard.
The hour went fast, and soon the final bell rang and evryone ran to get to the buses. When school was about to end everyone seemed to like the bus alot more. Cassia ended up sitting by Sammie, who was having yet another problem with the guys she met online. This time it was about Danny.
"See now Kayla is calling him all the time. And once when they thought that I had hung up, he asked her out and she almost said yes, but I spoke up and called her a bitch, and then I called later and it sounded like Danny was crying and so i tolh him not to cry, and I forgave him everything. I told him that I loved him and he told me the same thing. But you know what Kayla is still such a whore. I can't believe she did that and then another time......"
It didn't take long for Cassia to space out. She had learned exactly how to respond to everything that Sammie said. Now another nme came into play. "......And Bryan refuses to talk to me and I don't even know why. He said he had a girlfriend, so what I had other boyfriends when I talked to him. What does that matter. Like I'll I.M. him and he won't talk to me and he won't stay on when I do. He will just get off right after I send him something...." Bryan was a guy that Sammie had met online. They had something going for a while, but then one day he told her that he had a girlfriend. Cassia was pretty sure that he had figured out that Sammie had about 10 boyfriends online. None of which had ever seen her picture.
Soon Sammie started over in her main problem with Danny. It was hard for Cassia to listen because it was the same story over and over again. But she also couldn't totally zone out because Sammie wanted to know what she should do.
"I dunno, I think you should just forget about all the guys that you found online. Because hey. Two have already turned bad. And whatever happened to Mike? Just two months ago you said that you were head over heals for this guy. Did he find out that you had othe guys. You should just forget about them all. Thats what you should do. Because admit it. This is all your fault." Cassia had always tried to give sound advise. But sometimes it was hard telling people three years older than her things that they should know by now. Sammie looked at her, Cassia knew she hadn't liked what she had just heard.

"Well you know what, at least I have a boyfriend. I mean look at you, you haven't had a boyfriend since Tyler. And you like guys that you can't get." Cassia just looked at her, then turned and faced the window.
"Oh Cassia, you didn't just take that seriousy did you? I mean I am just mad that Kayla did this to me."
Cassia turned from the window. Her eyes like a stormy sea. Sammie knew that when they were that color to watch out. "You are just joking with me huh?? Well think about me for a second. I have to listen to all your problems and they become mine. Yet you don't even show a little bit of gratitude. I mean I could not give you advise. Or I could even give you bad advise. And besides, what do you think I am going through. The guy I like I can't go out with. And he likes me too, so how fair is that? my mom is cheating on her boyfriend, and tries to hide it from me.i just lost my two best friends, and you and everyone else comes to me with your problems, and not once do i complain. And notonce do you offer to listen to me."
Sammie just sat there staring at Cassia's eyes. They had this weird glowing to them. Like little lightning had been set loose in her iris's. "Well, you could have told me sooner. So who is it." Sammie put on a nervous smile. Immediately Cassia's eyes turned green, Sammie thought that she may be sad. She could see the tears welling up.
"I can't tell you." Cassia whispered. Then faced the window once more. Sammie got off a minute later. Cassia didn't even notice when she did. Her thoughts were raing about the concert. She didn't want to whimp out this close. She had to be there at six thirty. It was almost four now. A little less than two hours she had to get ready, practice and eat dinner. Dinner though, wouldn't be that much of a problem. Rashi would bring burgers from town.

The two hours flew by and here was Cassia sitting in the car waiting to finally get to the high school. They had just passed Finn Rock and so it wouldn't be that long. She kept on thinking on when would she posibly have the time to talk to him. They pulled into the parkinglot and there was Rashi's boyfriend. She looked at her mother and she didn't look all that happy that he was already here. This gave a little satisfaction to Cassia, who had faught off tears in the house and again on the way to the concert. Rashi had yelled at her, this was one of the worst ones yet.. This time it was a little harder on her because she was about to tell Jeremy, but she had stood up to it and just walked away, and turned the radio up. Cassia got out of the car and started to walk to the door. She pretended not to hear rashi calling to her.
