Mother Love

by E. L. Wright - Capricorn

The baby does not comprehend
The extent of the world that surrounds it.
Enclosed in the womb, it knows only itself,
Protected and sheltered by the one who cares and nurtures.

A small child knows not how to share.
Extremes of emotion and a selfish heart
Flaw an innocence procured only through circumstance.
You, my love, have always been this young being,
Your tantrums leave you sated.

My maternal instinct has worn away -
Go fend for yourself my little one.

Reason for writing:

This is a favourite of mine as I feel it sums up the weariness and impatience that I had in my last relationship. I often felt as though I was looking after a child, which is where this idea came from. Feedback and constructive criticism VERY welcome!
