Remember Me?

by E. L. Wright - Capricorn

Night falls and I’m still awake
Or waking dreams –
Walking my thoughts you tread gently,
Not unlike a spectre.
With an unearthly beauty your face
Mirrors not my own,
But one only half myself –
An apparition of a bygone era.
You are age, youth, time and spirit,
And in the dark you idly remind me of
Dreams and hopes both past and present.

Together we wander through my dreamscape,
As though our pleasant reverie
Is all the life we need.
Laughter and sunshine
Brightens a fitful slumber –
Taking my hand you lead
As we stumble through the tall grass,
No time to pluck the flowers that invite us.
I wonder at your joy,
The enthusiasm and delight that
Diffuses across your features.

Calling to me, I cannot discern
Why your voice stirs me so,
But the glimpse of a memory
Surfaced, half forgotten,
Brings back a portrait of rapture and idealism.
So familiar is this picture
Yet you, bright nymph, are an enigma –
I feel as though reunited with an old friend,
Someone dear whose absence is felt acutely.
Your youth gives me an energy
I lost long ago.

Reason for writing:

My inspiration was mainly childhood, remembering the time when nothing seemed to matter - everyone longs to be young again some of the time. I enjoyed writing this one, it made me smile. I also wanted to use a little more conservative language than my last couple of poems. Comments and constructive criticism VERY welcome. P.S. What is all this nonsense that people keep posting on this site? It is for poetry and people who appreciate it - not people who are purposely trying to cause derision. Just my two cents, don't bombard me with foul language and expletives please. :)
