I needed to put your memory from my mind. However much ‘in love’ I was, As though I had amnesia I wished that everything we had would fade, No – Cease to exist completely Leaving me innocent and composed. Composed? That seemed to be a foreign concept. As soon as you entered the room I sincerely believed I would never be composed again. When you fixed those eyes on me, I tried – I really did. Get a grip…get a grip…get a grip… A grip? But composure was as foreign as innocence When a million and one carnal thoughts Fixed themselves in my head and Steadfastly refused to budge. So I blushed Bit my lip Said nothing.
Reason for writing:
This poem amuses me as it accurately sums up my emotions when I encountered my ex-boyfriend just after we had split up. It is not a 'love poem' I hasten to add, more of a poem about conflicting emotions. Comments and constructive criticism VERY welcome!
