I stood alone on the beach. For the longest time I just stared at the waves. I watched them come in and out. I smelled the salt air I felt the cold wind. The sand was warm on my bare feet. Then I looked at the beach itself. I noticed for the first time a young mother and her son laying on the beach. And past them more people And a family. The young children were splashing in the water. Past them I saw a young couple. They reminded me I might not be the only person on the beach who could forget the others where there. Then I could hear them Everyone. They were all talking. I tried to listen. Soon it all became too loud. I started to walk forward. The cold water splashed around my toes. The water was always cold here. I walked deeper into the water. I could never do it when I was young I was always afraid of what might be in the water. This time I kept walking. Soon the water became too deep I had to start swimming. The father out I was the quieter the sounds were until all I could her was the wind and the waves. Then I stop. I was lying in the water. I just keep floating. Then it seemed like I could almost hear the young mother warning her son because, "You never know what's out in the water."
Reason for writing:
The visual image of a person on a beach was from a childern cartoon I was watching, and the rest came while I was playing with that image.
