The shadows haven't an opponent to box The tubs without a body to wash Lying around are the empty socks The creek can't remember the skipping rocks The books wonder where are the eyes Chores have gone without the audible sighs The leaves crave the echo of playful cries Branches miss the tug of swinging vines Silence has sadly filled the halls The phone laments the lack of calls Chills aren't cured with Grandmothers shawl The floors yearn to support that delicate crawl Instilling proper teachings without falter Eighteen years completed with a saunter The heir has left with nothing but your scepter Your baby has just begun life's next chapter
Reason for writing:
Everybody's leaving for college about now so I wrote this mainly for the parents. I like this idea because not everyone thinks about how much stuff is left unattended or a lot less used when the kids go off. At any rate, it was fun to write. Hope you enjoy.
