Dull Ache

by E. L. Wright - Capricorn

Dull ache
My friend,
You did not leave me long.
What would I do
Without your constant
Presence
Companionship
Love?

The thud
Not irritant
But safe,
For you remind me
To breathe even though
It’s so hard to recall how.
Unlike a knife
You are not sharp
And only caress me with sorrow.

Pining away -
Inane, senseless.
Only young and almost naïve,
I would never presume,
Hope,
Believe,
That wishes and regret
Would mend
What cannot be mended.

So you,
Dull ache,
You keep me sane.
Do you enjoy your seat?
You fill the nothing
Where my love
Crashed.
Can you feel it burn?

Reason for writing:

Sometimes you think you're over someone, and then, well, you just aren't. Just my thoughts on it. Comments and constructive criticism VERY welcome! Em x
