Lonely and cold they wander the street Sin and burden still dirty their feet They carry a small demon inside From which they can not seem to hide Together, yet alone, they run from all hope With a change they aren’t sure that they can cope Through both the rain and the snow The silent tears begin to flow Always hoping that there is a way To be loved by someone the next day In the morning they begin Now with hope within Looking for an open heart This is only a start A nod to a stranger passing by “God bless you,” is the only reply The phrase keeps popping into mind Wondering why this person was so kind Remembering that a church is near They start their journey with nothing to fear Passing the word all around Telling of the new love that they have found Every Sunday they give all that they have earned For the love of God is what they learned Still passing the sweet and precious word To all those who haven’t heard Time passes day by day They still kneel down to pray Thanks for they aren’t lonely and cold, wandering the streets And the sin and burden is washed from their feet They now carry a heart inside That to strangers the will not hide Study and spread the word is all they do If you believe, “they” can be you Please believe me for this I know For I was they only a while ago By: Kristen Stegman
