Anna Karenina

by Esther - Aquarius

In the palace of sighs,
Through the pillars of winds
And the pool that reflects
An ocean of tears
Raining down from a sky
That has long been no more -

There in an ancient
And forbidden time,
Perhaps then you and I,
Just you and I,
One last, endless time,
Could defy once again
The laws laid before
The foundations of man
And of worlds and of gods -

And we'd know that the love
That was ours, truly ours,
In the joy that was more
Than a joy, and the pain
That was greater than pain,
And the loss that unmade
All creation with passion
That could have brought forth
New worlds in existence -

Some say that the choices we faced
Were all wrong, yet we chose
With the courage of death,
Did we not?
And in choosing to love,
Did we truly believe
We could flee far beyond
The binding of vows?
Did we think to outrun
The swiftness of wrath,
When gravity's eye
Passed unyielding judgment
On heart's hidden lies?

Betray me and leave me,
But tell me one thing:
That though we chose wrongly,
And though we now writhe
In the throes of a vengeance
We wrought on ourselves,
Yet still we brought heaven
Down into this hell
That our wounded hearts built -
Please tell me that you
And I sinned in Love.

And if not,
Damn all worlds and all gods,
All laws and all loves -
For of Love I care not -
It is you -
You alone that I want.
