Guiding Light

by FireFly - Libra

I’m running-
Sliding into the scene-
On the escalator-
Fast forwarding-
Had a good breakfast-
To plug my power chord in-

Did you hear explosions in Yemen-
Did you see the Mid-East erupt-

News never makes sense-
But can you stand still-
Too much inertia-
To look past-
Your personal barbed wire fence-

Hold me up so I can see-
Past these bobbing heads-
You know ones that wear ties-
See the world in black and white-

Did you see the fear on their faces?-

You donate blood-
Or money-
Sometimes the two are the same-
In return, peace of mind-
Mends a guilty conscience-

Did you see the wanderlusts on the streets?

Children unclothed-
Old men and women sleeping in the cold-
The hippies drumming for peace-
To a 60’s generation beat-
Red light girls gone empty-
Leftovers of they’re former selves-

When warmth showers, love can live in concrete towers-
Although you can’t see it all the time-

In all these midnights-
I heard singing somewhere-
Hope disguised, clues on every turn-
In every alley way-
I'm not gonna find it-
I know if I do, I'll never want to leave it-
But it’s sweet lullaby-
Is a beam of guiding light-
