GONE TOO SOON (10/14/00)

by Samantha Lowe - Scorpio

How did this happen?
Why were you taken?
How could we have been so dumb?
We walked through our lives unnoticing
Just a normal guy
Who would have known?

Just going to work
4:30am
Who would have expected
A life so short
We saw you friday night
-The night before
You were just like us
Always was
17

She was just coming home from work
The stripper
Drunk as can be
How could she have driven?
Why did she?
Already had DUI's
Now you're gone

The halls won't be the same
Haven't been since you left
You were too young
Too innocent
Too immortal

Too young to die,
To soon to say goodbye.

Dedicated to Chris Brown, 17, 10/14/00
and to everyone else ever killed by a drunk driver.

Reason for writing:

When someone young dies, you suddenly realize that you aren't immortal. That death comes to us all. And it hits it so hard knowing that the person was your age, not even fully grown and that you had no hint to say that it would be the last time you would see them. It's unexpected.
