Just like Your Love

by Phil Yarborough - Aquarius

As the lightning strikes the tree,
Your love is burnt beneath me
Forgotten forever like a lost soul.
The splintered branches burn bright,
Glowing into the dark speckled night.
Just like your love, black, empty, cold.

The rain keeps pouring upon the blackened leaves.
The howling winds blow away all guarantees.
Feeding the wildfire as it spreads and grows.
Unlike your love, strong, warm and plentiful.
The tree submits its life and body. Oh so pitiful.
It burns, agonizingly slowly, as its eyes gently close.

Once the storm has ended and all is calm,
The tree stands. Sap dripping from the nail in each arm.
Crucifixion, just like your love,
A slow, painful death. Dry and exposed.
Pricked by the thorn on the soft sweet rose.
The image fits like a white cotton glove.

I was the tree. You was the storm. My eyes, now closed.
