the days are fading away

by Antwan Fields - Aries

i wake up and see the clock
is it really only 4:00?
it's so dark out there!
a mallard wails in the distance
as it heads southward
the snow will soon coat the ground
it will drop further
the beach a distant memory
summer days going away fast until the next year
wasting time, goofing around
cutting class, now im dead
as far as school is concerned
18 is not far away
and the days fading fast
till the boy in me disappears
and the man walks among the masses
it gets colder
the day now sucks
whatever happened to bright warm days?
i sat up at 5:00 just to watch the sunrise
now i try to sleep throughout the day
the end will come fast
i know
when im thirty ill look back and say
man, those days were just fading away
that is, if i ever make thirty
for now i live, soon sprouts the notion
that i am invincible
and i will live forever.
