The Wreckage

by Chelle Wood - Cancer

I saw your vessel
floating adrift
in a sea of bloodied agony

Your sails,
still furled,
hung lifeless in the quiet aftermath

Your banner,
your flag of truth and honor,
torn to tatters by the violent squall

I searched the wreckage
desperate for the sound of a heartbeat,
the echo of a sigh

I raged at the inhumanity,
the savagery of the violent storm
and wondered that I lived

And I wept...

Reason for writing:

This was inspired by son of wrath's poem "ships, water, hatred, and blood"...
