Restored

by R. Brough Terry - Pisces

'Twas a day like any other as I
walked down the street, and out of the corner
of my eye I saw a figure in the
shadows. It beckoned me to come to it.

Before I realized that I was too close,
it jumped from the shadows and gave me a
blow to the head. As I lay on the ground
I could feel blood seeping from a cut on
my temple. I soon became unconscious.

When I awoke, I found myself covered
in blood. My arms and legs were chained, and I
couldn't escape. Daily this demon would
torture me and daily the pain grew. For
years I sat in the darkest, deepest pit
or sore agony. Once I asked myself,
"Is is time for me to give up?"--Never!

One day I awoke and had high hopes of
escaping, but as I said, it was hope.
The demon brought an axe and I knew my
time was up. As I was slashed across the
chest, I could hear the blade scrape across my
ribs. I felt no pain as the blood ran down
to the floor, I only felt fear. I then
became furious when the evil one
began to laugh at the sound that my heart
made when it hit the cold and stony ground.

Amid the laughing of the demon, I
heard a door opening and in walked a bright
figure. I couldn't tell what it was at
first, but now I know that it was an angel.

The evil one ran at the sight of this
heavenly gift. The angel picked up my
broken heart and mended my battered soul.

As the angel nursed me back to health, I
realized that the demon would return to
me and again attempt to destroy me.

I asked the heavenly figure for help,
but I was told that I must defeat the
evil one with my own strength. And that was
what I prepared myself for. A battle!

'Twas a day like any other as I
walked down the street, and out of the corner
of my eye I saw a figure in the
shadows. It returned to me for a fight.

And that was what I gave it. I showed all
the fury of years of torture, pain, and
agony. I sent the evil one to
its own pit of Hell-like misery.

It's been a long time since I rid myself
of the demon and many scars remain.
Memories of the torture remain, but
I can now look back and know that I, with
my own strenght, defeated that dark being.

Reason for writing:

First, let me apologize. This verse may be a bit harsh to some readers. It's a true story, though. It actually happened to me. It's hidden behind a lot of symbolism, but it happened. I'd like to thank the demon in my life for all that she taught me through the years of torture and I'd like to thank my angel for saving me from the demon and all the healing with which she helped me.
