Gawking at the Girl in Blue and Pink

by Heather Williams - Libra

Last Thursday I wore a skirt and a blouse
With my bright blue tights and black shows
I walked in and even the few people in halls
Stared and giggled
As if I didn't mean to wear that this morning
As if I had dressed in the dark
Today people ask me what color my prom dress it
I simply tell them pink
Wait until I show up with my *bright* pink dress
Beautiful pink like the colors of an 80's club
What will the conformits say?
What will the pretty girls say?
I don't care
I will walk in the door with my man at my arm
In my dress knowing that I am beatiful
Simply because I am me

Reason for writing:

I was inspired my the poem "Fake" by Shannon. There is no worse thing in the world than to be somebody you are not.
